a long, tawdry journey into the dark
and inexplicable Hollywood night
She had everything…. Looks, talent, ambition and a contract with a Hollywood Movie Studio. DIXIE DANIELS, dazzling Texas beauty queen winner was on her way.
Dixie arrives in tinsel town and quickly learns how to play the game. Passing herself off as young, single and available, she conceals the existence of her soldier husband ROY and TONY, her four year old son. Dixie starts getting bigger and bigger parts, her “relationship” with RUSTY LAREDO, popular TV and film country western star, accelerates her climb up stardom’s golden ladder…. Then it all stops, Dixie dies suddenly in a fiery auto crash.
The police wrap up the case. Dixie’s husband Roy is shocked and devastated.
When he arrives in California to get Tony, he also inquirers into Dixie’s death. The lead Detective, ELLIS FERGUSON, is polite but brief. He brushes over Roy’s unanswered questions. Roy has doubts, the Los Angeles Police are short on answers. Roy starts to delve into Dixie’s death.
He uncovers, her bumpy road to stardom filled with drugs, deception and pornography. Slick characters like “folksy” RUSTY LOREDO, and her fast taking agent AL COSTANZA have thin veneers that attempt to conceal their sleaze and corruption.
And the LAPD, a police force not known for the greatest of integrity, has glaring omissions in its operations.
Roy, despite threats of personal danger, forges ahead…. Astonishingly, he locates Dixie in hiding; alive and terrified, a witness to rape and murder…so she says.
Killings, deception, pay offs and cover ups; orchestrated at the highest levels, start to be exposed.
SHOOTING STAR, dark, steamy, shadowy, and convoluted. It takes you on a chilling roller coaster ride up the glossy façade and down into the steamy underbelly of Movieland’s dream factory. It’s a long, tawdry journey into the dark and inexplicable Hollywood night.
